“I am not as concerned with the bus shortage,” parent Nicole Felts says. “I think what concerns me most is the lack of planning to get our kids back into school five days.'
“Honestly I don't really think the transportation issue is an issue,” mom Marcy Hart says. “With speaking with many other Penfield parents, we would work together to drop our kids off, pick them up.'
Hart says that way, buses can be routed to pick up the students who really need a ride.
Right now the district is working with a hybrid model, but Hart says that's not enough.
“We want to see results,” Hart says. “We want our kids back in school five days a week. Other districts are doing it. Pittsford’s doing it, Perry’s doing it. They're thinking outside of the box. They are looking for parent input and we are looking for full time and honesty and transparency.'
Felts echoed that thought, saying they are willing to pitch in for PPE.
“If it's an issue of money I’m sure parents would fundraise to buy those barriers to get our kids back to school,” Felt says. “So I think it's time to get creative, you know, work with the parents, work with the community, and get our kids back in school.'

Putnam says they are looking at building two emergency plans for if and when they are short bus drivers after sending a survey to parents.

“One of those plans would involve only sending buses out for families that either don't respond to the survey or say that they need transportation only in an emergency situation,” Putnam says.
